September 04 What do disasters bring us?
I think disasters are not unacquainted to us - it’s so usual to hear horrible tragedies, like traffic accidents, aircraft crashes, natural disasters and violent crimes, from media, that responses of most of us are just fugacious depression. Anyhow, those miserable victims may be quite far from us, and no related personal experiences are involved. After the silence for several hours, we may forget the terrible news the next day, and devote into our jobs still with the same happy mood.
However, once such evils befall our lives, we may be greatly shocked and suffered, and it’s difficulty for us to recover from it in a long period. For example, if a familiar friend passes away suddenly in a traffic accident, then such lightning bolt may drive us dizzy and mad. We may be dejected in day time, and the friend’s voice and expression haunt in our dreams. Consider the ice-cold corpse, the bleak funeral, the despair tears and crying - these personal experiences escalate our grief.
Indeed, sometimes a seemingly adamant life cannot withstand a single blow - in front of nature’s power, it perishes instantly. Unfortunately, most tragedies are impossible to predict due to the complexity of the objective world. Although the probability is neglectable, it’s fairly possible that a certain accident will deprive my, or anyone else’s life the next day, the next hour, or the next minute. Dread and fear are useless here. As long as we live on this planet, the probability exists.
Then what do disasters bring us? Of course, victims should be mourned, dependents should be consoled, from which the precious human nature like love and sympathy are adequately reflected. Yet, more importantly, I think the value of lives should be re-evaluated after disasters by every alive people. By realizing the fragility and impermanency of lives, we should get rid of the drop shadow of disasters and cherish every second of our lives. Our tears and blessings can not alter the fate of those victims, however, the destiny of the future is gripped by us; we are able to bring fresh flowers and mellow wine to the real-life. August 30 RunningI like running, especially at night.
The playground is quite near from my dormitory, about five minutes' walk. Putting my bag and coat aside on the bench, stretching my legs and arms, taking a deep breath, then, the easy and comfortable experience begins! I would consider my favor as "jogging" rather than the formal exercise of "running". While jogging, not only the whole body is relaxed, but also the spirit is springing airily. At this moment, many beautiful things may appear in my mind, like the graceful melody of Mozart's piano sonata, the affecting ending of the movie I watched yesterday, or nothing but delighted emotion comes from far and near.
In summer, after three or four laps, sweet soaks the whole body; I slow down and walk another lap around the runway. After the heart beating rate returns to normal soon, the physical comfort and unfading psychological easement make me calm and peaceful, accompanying the breeze in summer's night... August 24 Space Taxi!I become a taxi driver in the future world! Different from today’s cabs, my taxi can fly – among skyscrapers in metropolis, in mysterious exotic planets, across exuberance forests… All these funs are from Space Taxi II – a modern version of the classical game ‘Space Taxi’on Commodore 64 twenty years ago. In this game, the player should fly the taxi around futuristic space settings picking up and delivering passengers while avoiding many hazards like falling stars, black holes, bad weather and much more. It calls for great consentration and skills to control the flying taxi, especially in taking off and landing; besides, the limitation of fuel is also a difficulty. In some levels, one should take advantage of the special gravity to let the car “floating” in order to optimize the usage of fuel.

你如敬酒请用秋波
I sent thee late a rosy wreath,
我曾送你玫瑰花环

The origin of the English archaic tune is not known. It does not appear earlier than around 1770. The words are Ben Johnson's poem, "To Celia," written in 1616. According to the Oxford Companion to Music, the tune cannot be traced back beyond about 1770.
I'm moved by the connotation and elegance of the song. On a luxury feast, no words or gestures, a pair of lovers just pass tenderness and love through eyes. Compare with ardent and passionate Italian love songs such as "My Sun", English ballads are graceful and euphemistical - just like the climate in England - cool and moisture. Imagine a lassie wandering in a delicate garden, with maple leaves rustling in the autumnal air - elegant as it is, no emotion of dreariness. I also cherish the archaic words like "thine" and "Doth", the consonants trickling between tongue and teeth bring aromatic aftertaste to me.

To my astonishment, I find that the only thing belongs to me about that city is memory. Those new buildings and plazas are so strange, and even unease me. I like to stroll on one familiar street with flourishing phoenix trees on both sides; there, I often recall fragments of past events in my childhood and teenager-times. Five years ago, just on the exact street, I was weaving dreams about high-school life on my new bicycle.
People often regard their adolescent periods as “golden times”; however, I do not think so. Anyhow, difficulties, frustrations and restrictions are densely covered in my high-school life, and I think I’ve got more freedom, passion and lucky in my university, which is located in a metropolis overflowing with modern civilization.
Oh, my odd nostalgia… August 16 GRE Writing finished yesterday…GRE Writing finished yesterday…
Stepping out of the examination room, I relieved myself by having a deep breath of hot air… I cherish the precious one-month experience preparing for the ephemeral 75 minutes. GRE Writing not only improves my logical thinking and reasoning abilities, but also provides me with senses of composing fluent and coherent English sentences. Browsing my 120 articles, I find the rational power of the combination of 26 magic letters. The great civilization achieved by Western People has close relationship to their rationalistic and standardization, which are reflected in many detailed aspects in GRE Exams.
Particularly, I appreciate my mum, who waited for me outside the exam room in such broiler with anxiety and hope; thanks Jessie, who comments on my compositions and provides me with better understanding of arguments; thanks LAWSON, which supplies me with delicious snacks and meals when I was faced junk food of the cafeteria.
Having a glance of the calendar, I’m astonished that there are only two months ahead to the final battle on Oct, 22. Anyhow, God blesses this adorable turkey… |
